Grilling hamburgers!

Oh man . . . . . the thoughts of a juicy hamburger coming off the grill. Ummmmmmmmm.

Probably more hamburgers are grilled than any other meat.

  • They don't cost a lot
  • They are easy to grill
  • Almost everyone loves hamburgers
  • You can use frozen pattys so they are great for last minute meals

There is really not a whole lot of choice anymore when grilling burgers. For safety reasons, it's recommended they are cooked thoroughly. If you are using a thermometer, Hamburgers made of ground beef should reach 160 °F.

There should be no red on the inside.

Now, I know there are still lots of people who cook their hamburgers and like to see some of the red juices in them, but it's not recommended anymore. Your choice really is medium - 160 °F, or well done.

A few tips for the best burgers.

  • Make certain hamburger is thoroughly defrosted before grilling (I actually use ready made burgers at the frozen section at the store and toss them on frozen - on a low heat to begin so that the burger defrosts as it cooks)
  • Pre season with pepper - seems to bring out the juices and flavor
  • Never take your spatula and press down on the burgers while grilling - you lose juices this way
  • You will see the juices flowing from the burgers while you grill. Once the juices are a clear color, your burger is probably done. Use a thermometer at first to get a feel for this
  • If you are going to use a barbecue sauce, wait to apply until the burger is almost ready.

I recently found frozen patty's made from Angus at our Sam's Club. They are so good and juicy!
